Cookies/Biscuits

These are normally enjoyed year round but at this time of year, they are extra special. Biscuit companies release special edition packs of cookies. Many of them are large, family sized packages so you can give them as gifts or enjoy for yourself with your tea. Many are also enrobed in chocolate or packed in special tins. Walkers Shortbread is known for their tins, as they have made Christmas themed tins for decades.

Mince Pies

Mince pies are some of the more popular Christmas treats. Starting in October, British supermarkets usually begin to sell these delectable little pies. If you don’t know what mince pies are, they are sometimes called Mincemeat pies in the US, although they have no actual meat in them. They are filled with sugar, currants, raisins, and sultanas in a shortcrust pastry. In recent years, mince pie makers have started to cater to many people with special diets. Gluten-free mince pies have hit the shelves and have proven to be popular among those with Celiac disease and wheat allergies.

Christmas Cakes

It is not a true British Christmas without a Christmas Cake! Often made months ahead so the cake can mature, a lot of careful work is put into these specially crafted cakes. These cakes are commonly boozy, sweet, loaded with dried fruits, and topped with marzipan and icing. For those who do not have the time to make a homemade Christmas cake, there are always the premade cakes. There are simple cakes to the more elegant ones. There is a cake for everyone.

Christmas Puddings

Christmas Puddings nearly have the same ingredients as Christmas Cakes except for a few different ingredients along with the fact that they are steamed nor do they have any icing or marzipan. Whether you enjoy a single serve or a large one with your family and friends, Christmas puddings are a joy to eat. Enjoy with brandy butter for a marvelous holiday delight!
