Surprise the significant others in your life with a Valentine’s Tea Party this February 14th. Show them how much you care for them by treating them to tea, cake, sandwiches, and more.
Bake fresh scones from scratch or a mix and set out some jam or preserves like strawberry, cherry, or raspberry in little bowls. If one of your guests is not fond of either of those fruits you can always set out a flavor they do like such as blackcurrant or blueberry. In addition to jam, set out some clotted and Devon cream. It’s not a tea party without them!
As for nibbles, you can make simple tea sandwiches. Make egg, chicken, or salmon sandwiches and use breads like white, wheat, or pumpernickel. Use the pumpernickel on salmon sandwiches to help bring out the flavor. You can also feel free to use your own fillings. One of my personal favorites is turkey lunchmeat with cream cheese and basil on white bread.
For sweets, the fruits synonymous with Valentine’s Day are strawberries, cherries, and raspberries. Chocolate Covered Strawberries are the most popular sweet treat for Valentine’s Day. You can buy them pre-made but they will most likely cost a pretty penny. If you want to be creative and save money at the same time, you could always make them yourself. All you will need is some dipping chocolate (usually found in most grocery stores in the produce or baking section), strawberries, and a little bit of time. You can go with standard milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white. If you feel even more creative, you can add a few drops of red gel food dye (don’t use the regular liquid food coloring. Gel food coloring will be much brighter) for a dark red or a drop or two to make pink. You can also drizzle chocolate or add sprinkles to them. You can also make cherry or raspberry desserts like a Black Forest Cake or a Victoria Sponge with cream and raspberry or strawberry jam. Slice up the cakes and place strawberries intricately on a doily lined serving tray and serve.
With tea, it should look aesthetically pleasing in your teacup and taste delicious all at the same time. If you want to stick with the fruit theme you can try Ahmad Tea’s Strawberry Sensation or Twinings Green Tea with Strawberry, Pomegranate, and Raspberry for a sweet caffeine kick. You can also brew up classic tea party favorites like English Breakfast or Earl Grey teas.
