Queen Elizabeth II
Less than one year after celebrating her 90th birthday, Queen Elizabeth II reached another historic milestone.
On February 6, 2017, Her Majesty marked her Sapphire Jubilee, celebrating an extraordinary 65 years on the British throne. No monarch in British history had ever reached this milestone, making her reign truly unprecedented.
In 2015, she had already surpassed her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, who reigned for 63 years and 7 months.
Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II in 1952 following the death of her father, King George VI, while she was on a royal tour in Kenya.
At just 25 years old, she was early in her marriage to Prince Philip and already a mother to two young children—Prince Charles and Princess Anne.
With her ascension, the national anthem changed from God Save the King to God Save the Queen, sung with pride across the nation.

The Queen has celebrated several jubilees during her reign:
- Silver Jubilee (1977) — 25 years on the throne
- Golden Jubilee (2002) — 50 years
- Diamond Jubilee (2012) — 60 years
While the Sapphire Jubilee was more low-key at the Queen’s request, it remained a significant moment in royal history.
Celebrate in Your Own Way
You can mark the occasion with a classic British tea experience.
Try a cup of
English Breakfast loose leaf tea
—a strong and traditional choice, often enjoyed with milk and no sugar, just as the Queen prefers.
For variety, the

offers several classic blends to explore.
Pair your tea with
Walkers Shortbread cookies
for an authentic touch.
And for a bit of fun, add decor like a
British 50 pound note tea towel
to your setting.
Looking Ahead
Queen Elizabeth II remains one of the most beloved figures across the Commonwealth.
At the time, one couldn’t help but wonder—what would 70 years on the throne look like?
A milestone for the ages.
