Irish Brands You Should Try

Ireland shares a culture with the UK that is somewhat similar but also quite different. Many Irish people enjoy tea as much as the Brits do. They also enjoy similar foods such as scones, shortbread, and peas.

Let’s take a look at some of the fine Irish brands we at the English Tea Store purvey.

Mileeven Honey

Mileeven was established in 1988 by Eilis Gough after she and her husband took up beekeeping. The name Mileeven is derived from two different Irish words, mil (honey) and Aoibhinn (pronounced “eeven”, meaning delightful), meaning “delightful honey.” The Kilkenny-based company has become one of the leading honey companies in Ireland.

Sarah’s Infused Honey is a part of the Mileeven honey family. In fact, Sarah is Eilis’ daughter who now helps run the business! Some of her creations include lemon, ginger, and cinnamon-infused honey. They add a flavorful twist to scones and toast. Just be careful not to finish the whole jar in one sitting!

Order some of this award-winning honey directly from us! Try honey infused with Jameson Irish Whisky, Irish Cream Liqueur, or cut comb honey

Batchelor’s

You’d be surprised to find out that Batchelor’s is an Irish company. Despite being an Irish company, Batchelor’s is one of the biggest brands sold in the UK and beyond. The founder, William Batchelor, was a former tea salesman when he decided to establish his food company in 1895.

You can make Batchelor’s Marrowfat peas traditionally by soaking and simmering, a no-soak version, or if you’re strapped for time, canned. Batchelor’s Marrowfat peas pair exceptionally well with a meal of fish and chips. If you want to spice up your marrowfats, add a bit of mint to it!

Bewley’s

Since 1840 Bewley’s has sold a fine line of coffee and tea products. This Dublin-based company was once a tiny little shop in Sycamore Alley but is now selling across Ireland, the UK, and the United States.

Bewley’s teas are a unique treat in themselves. The original blend is a melange of black teas from Kenya, Rwanda, and India. As a result, this helps produce a rich, golden color when brewed and a pure strong taste. It’s no wonder it’s one of our bestsellers!

If you’d much rather have coffee, Bewley’s Irish Creme Coffee would be an excellent choice. This ground coffee is made with 100% Arabica coffee beans and is suitable for all coffee makers. Try this with some milk and sweetener a 1-ounce shot of whisky for a truly exquisite taste!

Trivia: It is said that Irish people drink up to nearly 300 liters (or close to 80 gallons) of tea a year! That’s more than the British at 265 liters (or 70 gallons)!

*Please note, it is not recommended to feed honey to infants under the age of 1.
